Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday mentioned the National Medical Council has virtually sanctioned a proposal to introduce 50 extra MBBS seats within the Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC).
Currently, the AGMC has 150 MBBS seats and 115 postgraduate seats in several disciplines.

While talking at a programme, the CM mentioned, “We have approached the National Medical Council (NMC) for the introduction of fifty extra MBBS seats in AGMC and the proposal has been virtually sanctioned”, he mentioned.
A senior official mentioned the NMC has requested the state to create some infrastructure earlier than introducing 50 extra MBBS seats, and admission in new seats could happen within the subsequent educational session.
Currently, the state has 400 MBBS seats and 63 BDS seats, he mentioned, including {that a} nursing school and a regional pharmacy school are functioning within the northeastern state.
Highlighting improvement in healthcare, the chief minister mentioned the federal government is eager to fill all of the vacancies in medical doctors on the earliest.
