Rome mayor vows to proceed to combat mafia after on-line risk with gu


Gualtieri receives bipartisan assist after risk over demolition of unlawful villas.

Rome mayor Roberto Gualtieri on Saturday vowed to proceed his administration’s dedication to preventing the mafia after receiving a risk towards him and his household on social media.

The threatening message, accompanied by a photograph of a person brandishing a rifle, got here after the town demolished two illegally constructed villas in a stronghold of mafia-style clans with Sinti origins.

“This is for the mayor and for his household” – the message learn – “As you knocked down our home, I’ll knock down yours. Time will inform. The State doesn’t scare me”.

 

The intimidating message – which has since been cancelled – reportedly got here from Silvio Hilic, one of many residents of the luxurious villas demolished on Via Arzachena within the Rocca Cencia space to the east of Rome.

Police are investigating whether or not Hilic wrote the message himself from jail on an illegally obtained cellphone or whether or not another person used his Facebook profile to submit the risk.

Bipartisan solidarity

The risk towards the centre-left mayor and his household was condemned throughout the political spectrum, with the mayor receiving widespread solidarity from the right-wing authorities, together with from prime minister Giorgia Meloni who slammed the “unacceptable intimidation”.

Deputy premier Matteo Salvini and inside minister Matteo Piantedosi additionally expressed solidarity with Gualtieri and condemned the risk, as did the chief of the centre-left Partito Democratico (PD) Elly Schlein who stated her social gathering “is at [Gualtieri’s] facet and helps his brave and decided work.”

Gualtieri responds
