Restaurant countersues over News Corp’s ‘Undercover Jew’ stunt

The Egyptian restaurant that unwittingly supplied the backdrop for The Daily Telegraph’s “Undercover Jew” stunt has countersued the person on the centre of the saga, who’s himself suing the restaurant for defamation over social media posts made within the aftermath of the incident.

Cairo Takeaway, within the Sydney inner-west suburb of Newtown, filed a cross-claim within the Federal Court on Friday towards pro-Israel activist Ofir Birenbaum for trespassing.

The assertion of cross-claim, seen by Crikey, argues that Birenbaum tried to “enhance social division by getting into a pro-Palestinian premises carrying a cap that resembles the Israeli flag with a Daily Telegraph digicam crew ready outdoors”, and describes the stunt as a “merciless experiment”.
