More than 1,600 individuals flee Sudan’s South Kordofan in single day | Sudan conflict News


More than 1,600 Sudanese civilians fled the city of Kertala in South Kordofan in a single day as insecurity escalated alongside rising abuses by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in line with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The United Nations company stated on Sunday that discipline groups from its Displacement Tracking Matrix estimated that 1,625 individuals left Kertala on November 28 due to worsening safety circumstances linked to RSF violations.

This newest wave of displacement follows RSF assaults, supported by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), on a number of villages in South Kordofan, together with the kidnapping of younger individuals for compelled recruitment.

The three Kordofan states – North, West and South – have seen weeks of fierce combating between the military and the RSF, prompting tens of 1000’s of individuals to flee, in line with human rights teams.

Of Sudan’s 18 states, the RSF controls all 5 states of the Darfur area within the west, apart from some northern components of North Darfur that stay below military management.

The military, in flip, holds most areas within the remaining 13 states within the south, north, east and centre, together with the capital, Khartoum.

The battle between the Sudanese military and the RSF, which started in April 2023, has killed no less than 40,000 individuals and displaced 12 million, in line with the World Health Organization.
