On November 4, 1950, France joined 11 different European nations in signing the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
This conference established the European Court of Human Rights, Europe’s first binding mechanism to guard worldwide human rights. Today it ensures respect for the basic rights and freedoms of the greater than 600 million residents of the Council of Europe’s 46 member states.
Seventy-five years after the signing of this conference, France reaffirms its dedication to that founding textual content that protects elementary rights.
