Over €800,000 in undeclared money has been seized at Florence Airport following a collection of inspections carried out between June and October 2025 by Italy’s Customs Agency and the Guardia di Finanza (Finance Police).
In complete, greater than 200 checks on arriving passengers revealed cash actions price over €1.5 million, resulting in 44 violations and administrative fines amounting to almost €60,000.
According to the Finance Police, the undeclared cash was usually hid inside baggage or on passengers themselves. In one case, 4 vacationers have been discovered carrying nearly €130,000 in money and gold bars, hidden amongst private belongings and divided between euros, {dollars}, kilos, and Swiss francs.
Another case concerned an Italian resident in Madrid who arrived in Florence with 300 grams of gold in small bars—price round €28,000—hidden in his trolley, together with €4,500 in money. He was fined €6,700.
Authorities reminded vacationers that any quantity over €10,000 in money or equal property have to be declared when coming into or leaving the European Union.
