Transport and Internal Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland mentioned Tuesday she is stepping down from cupboard and received’t run within the subsequent federal election, ending a 12-year stint as some of the outstanding faces in Canadian politics.
Freeland made the announcement in an announcement posted to social media following what turned out to be her closing cupboard assembly in Ottawa.
“With super gratitude and slightly unhappiness, I’ve determined to step down from Cabinet right now and switch the web page on this chapter in my life,” she wrote. “I don’t intend to run within the subsequent federal election.”

Freeland and Prime Minister Mark Carney exited Tuesday’s cupboard assembly in Ottawa with their arms round one another and smiling, taking no questions from reporters ready within the hallway.
Before being appointed to Carney’s cupboard in May, Freeland served a number of high-profile ministerial roles below former prime minister Justin Trudeau, together with as his deputy prime minister.
