Australia has formally recognised Palestine as a sovereign state, asserting the choice on the identical day because the UK and Canada.
A joint assertion from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong, launched on Sunday night, declared: “Effective immediately, Sunday the twenty first of September 2025, the Commonwealth of Australia formally recognises the impartial and sovereign state of Palestine. In doing so, Australia recognises the legit and long-held aspirations of the folks of Palestine to a state of their very own.”
