TOURISTS and beach-goers needed to do a double take after a pair of males arrived at a well-liked Mijas seashore by jet ski earlier than abandoning them fleeing on foot when challenged by lifeguards.
The incident unfolded in Mijas at 6pm on September 16, when the pair rode their jet ski into the swimming space of Playa Marina, a seashore common with the heavy British expat inhabitants.
At first it didn’t appear too uncommon after they parked their craft on the sand earlier than hopping off.
The lifeguards noticed nothing out of the peculiar, as beachgoers generally use jet skis to achieve the shore earlier than heading to seashore bars or retailers, leaving their craft briefly on the sand.
However, alarm bells rang when lifeguard coordinator Gonzalo Botta Veccia approached the duo to remind them they couldn’t go away their car on the seashore.
Instead of complying, the pair instantly eliminated their life jackets and sprinted away with out saying a phrase.
“It’s fairly frequent for a bather to strategy the shore and go away the jet ski whereas they go to eat at a chiringuito or purchase one thing. We didn’t suspect them initially,” Botta Veccia advised Malaga Hoy newspaper.
“But when our lifeguard tried to warn them they couldn’t go away the car on the seashore, they simply ran.”
The seashore rescue service instantly alerted the Guardia Civil, who dispatched a patrol to look the encompassing space.
Despite combing the neighborhood, officers have been unable to find the fugitives.
Lifeguards have been left to take away the deserted jet skis and hold the swimming space remained secure for different beachgoers.
The incident highlights ongoing considerations about irregular arrivals alongside Spain’s southern shoreline.
